Strindberg’s skillful employment of the deus ex machina device strengthens this surreal aesthetic, challenging traditional narrative structures that prioritize linearity and neat conclusions. In Strindberg’s Dream Play, the deus ex machina is reimagined as a sophisticated narrative device that delves into existential and philosophical inquiries.
