Abstract: |
This study deals with and discusses the subject of : Astrology and Astrologers in the era of the Dehli Sultans in India since the beginning of the Mamluk Era until the end of the Fayrouz shah Tughluq (602-790 AH/1388-1206 AD), despite the historical importance that was characterized and gained by such a topic, whether at the level of individuals and societies, or at the level of states and kingdoms, It has not received enough study and attention, as this subject falls within the sciences of astronomy and astrology, since ancient times, the Indians have shown a long history through such sciences, so they have showed an ability that emanates from the genius of the Indian mind in predicting the future, so that interest in the sayings issued by the owners of this science or industry, and in the astrological judgments decisions they have taken, constitutes a substantial aspect of private and public interests alike.
The introductory part of this study was the mentioning of linguistic and idiomatic definition of astrology and monitoring the development of Indian astrology in the ancient era as well as astrology between legality and prohibition, with a statement of the evidence reflecting the corruption of the industry of astrologers with texts derived from the Qur’an, in addition to mental evidence that have been stated by historians and jurists in this regard, those who concluded that it was only false assumptions. This study included four main axes: The first axis dealt with monitoring the factors affecting the popularity of astrology in India during the era of the Dehli Sultans, such factors ranged from those related to political and military necessity, and other factors connected to the cultural and scientific aspects, as they have had the greatest impact on the popularity and prosperity of astrology, whereas the second axis of the study handled the status of astrologers in the era of the Dehli Sultans as well as showing the great respect and appreciation enjoyed by the sultans, in the third axis of the study, the researcher moved to show and highlight the practices of astrologers through monitoring the most famous practices of astrologers and trace them during the era of the Dehli Sultans and finally, the interests of these sultans in astronomical fortune-telling were mentioned before they embark on any action or event.
