Abstract: |
The present work was conducted at the laboratory of Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University during the two successive seasons of 2012 and 2013. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of some preservative solutions on improving the keeping quality of croton (Codiaeum variegatum L.) plants during storage period as simulate transport conditions. The foliar spraying plants with some preservative solutions; i.e. BA at 10ppm, GA3 at 25ppm, GSH (glutathione) at 100ppm, NAA (naththalene acetic acid) at 25ppm, STS (silver thiosulphate)+BA, SNP (sodium nitroprusside) at100ppm and STS (1:4mμ) and cold storage for several durations (0 time, 10, 20 days) and the interaction between them. The data recorded were leaf number, leaf tensile (g/cm2), leaf hardness (g/cm2), total chlorophyll percentage (mg/g), anthocyanin (mg/100g) and total carbohydrate. STS+BA gave the highest significant difference in each of leaf number, leaf tensile (gm/ cm2), total chlorophyll (mg/g), total carbohydrate. Leaf tensile (g/cm2), total chlorophyll and carbohydrate decreased by increasing storage periods. In spite of leaf hardness (g/cm2) and anthocyanin (mg/100g) increased by increasing storage periods.
