Abstract:
Contraception describes pregnancy prevention by inhibiting the normal process of ovulation, fertilization and implantations. Aim of the present study was to find determinant factors of modern contraceptive methods utilization and discontinuation among reproductive-aged women in rural area. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in family planning centers and units in Kafr -Sakr city at Sharkia governorate. The target population included all married women in reproductive age attendant’s family planning centers during the period of the study. Tools of data collection: A predesigned questionnaire was used to collect data related to socioeconomic characteristics, FP practice, determinant factors for utilization of modern contraceptive methods. Results: women in the study subject try more than one method of modern contraceptive as more than half of women reported use of hormonal methods for a period of time and half of them used barrier methods. And nearly half of them used IUD for period of time. Occurrence of complication and need for pregnancy were the most common causes for discontinuation of modern contraceptive methods. Conclusion and recommendation:- Health care providers play a key role in providing information and education about family planning. For further improve utilization of modern contraception in this rural areas counseling programs should be involved as part of care provided to women in rural family planning centers.
