This study was carried out to study benefits and obstacles of thoracoscopic cryoprobe biopsy in contrast to forceps biopsy in patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion. For this purpose, 22 patients (12 males and 10 females with mean age 63.95±16.19 years) with undiagnosed pleural effusion who admitted at chest department of Zagazig university hospitals in the period from April 2022 to April 2023 were included in our study. • There was a statistically significant relation between presence of nodules and histopathological findings with higher percentage was reported in metastatic cancers. • There was significant difference when comparing between two studied groups and biopsy largest length in (mm) and biopsy largest surface area in (mm2) in favor to cryo forceps. • There was a significant difference when comparing two studied patients regarding bleeding at biopsy bed in favor to cryo forceps group. Severe bleeding did not occur in any case. • There was a non-significant difference when comparing between two studied groups regarding diagnostic yield. The predominant histopathological examination in patients was metastatic malignancy pleural effusion (45.45%): followed by mesothelioma (31.8%), poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (9%), chronic non-specific pleurisy (9%) and round cell tumor (4.5%). • There was a statistically significant difference when comparing between two studied groups regarding crushed cells. There was a non-significant difference when comparing between two studied groups regarding diagnostic yield and histopathological interpretation and depth of biopsy.
