Abstract:
Emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistance is a very critical global problem. Physicians and patients are in an endless war against bacterial infections. Bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotic by production of antibiotic inactivating enzymes, over expression of efflux pumps, reduction of outer membrane permeability and mutational change of antibiotic targets. Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) plays an important role in the evolution of life on earth. Moreover, the ability of these mobile genetic elements to establish genetic connections between widely disparate species makes them likely to be principal players in the ongoing dissemination of a wide variety of antimicrobial resistance determinants. The present study aimed to; first, investigate and document the role of HGT (conjugation) in transmission of resistance genes among common nosocomial bugs. Second, to explore some possible approaches and stratigies by using new editing tool technologies namely CRISPR\Cas9 in tackling the problem of antimicrobial resistance.
