Abstract:
Infection in the oral cavity is caused by a number of organisms from different species found in the human mouth. The oral bacteria have capacity to form biofilm on hard or soft tissues. So, to maintain oral health and prevent dental caries, it is essential to control the oral biofilm. Bacterial plaque is one of the major causes for dental decay and gum disease. The bacteria that form the biofilm are mostly Streptococcus mutans and some anaerobes, though the precise composition varies by location in the mouth Antimicrobial irrigating solutions and other locally used disinfecting agents and medicaments play a key role in the eradication of microbes. An ideal irrigant or disinfectant should have high efficacy against microorganisms in biofilm while being systemically non-toxic and non-caustic. There is a need for agents that are both antibacterial and exert minimal tissue-irritating effects. Plant-derived natural products represent a rich source of antimicrobial compounds, and some have been incorporated into oral hygiene products. The aim of this study is to investigate some possible strategies for eradication of bacterial dental biofilm
