Abstract:
Summary Introduction : Mathematics learning disabilities are among the research shadow points in the field of learning disabilities in our Arab world. Many studies focused on reading and spelling difficulties, and neglected mathematics learning disabilities despite their prevalence, Many recent studies indicate that no less than 6% of students with learning disabilities in the primary stage suffer from difficulties in learning mathematics (Daniel Hallahan and James Kaufman, 2008, 51). People with learning disabilities suffer from attention problems, distraction, difficulty concentrating on tasks, and fail to complete school work, and these behaviors have negative repercussions on students’ achievement, as well as on their behavior (Hisham Ghorab, 2010, 115). This disorder also affects all aspects of a child’s life. And its effect extends to the parents, causing disturbances in the family relationship (Naji Hamza, 2015, 201). Studies indicate that educational games can be a fertile environment that helps in the development of the child, and that it has characteristics and advantages that stimulate the learner’s motivation and urge him to actively interact with the educational material in terms of facts, concepts, principles, skills, laws, and theories in a realistic atmosphere close to his perceptions. Sensual, and make him attracted to it and seeks to deal with it in an entertaining and fun way to achieve certain goals, From this standpoint, modern educational curricula adopted the idea of educational curricula based on educational games that seek to achieve diverse and comprehensive goals for all aspects of the learner's emotional, cognitive, and skillful growth (self-kinetic) (Muhammad Al-Haila, 2007, 44-45). The theory of multiple intelligences is one of the educational theories that revealed and measured the mental abilities of students on the one hand, and the methods by which learning and knowledge acquisition takes place on the other hand. Where it demonstrated the existence of indications showing that certain areas of the brain respond to specific types of knowledge, And that the individual's brain works through several forms of mental processes, and thus we find that programs based on multiple intelligences can contribute to improving students' achievement and developing their skills and abilities. This is the result of the teacher's focus on the student in the educational process, making him the main focus, and increasing his motivation towards studying (Gardner, 2003, 122-123). the study Problem: The problem of the study stems from the nature of students with learning disabilities who suffer from problems paying attention to the information they receive from the outside world through one sensory model when other sensory stimuli attract their attention, which creates a problem for them to choose between different sensory stimuli, which makes it difficult for them to learn, especially if The subject learned was mathematics, because it is one of the subjects that most needs accuracy in attention, The researcher, through his work as a mathematics teacher, noticed a lack of attention among some fifth-grade students, so the researcher applied the learning difficulties battery to these students and found that they suffer from learning difficulties. The researcher found - within the limits of his knowledge - that many previous studies have proven the effectiveness of education programs Therapeutic, and the use of different strategies in the development of attention among students with learning disabilities. The problem of the study is identified in the following main question: What is the effectiveness of a program of educational games based on the theory of multiple intelligences on reducing attention problems among fifth grade students with mathematics learning disabilities? Objectives of the study: The study aims to: 1- Verifying the effectiveness of a program of educational games based on the theory of multiple intelligences in reducing attention problems among fifth-grade students with mathematics learning disabilities. 2- Verifying the continuity of the program's effectiveness in reducing attention problems among fifth-grade students with mathematics learning disabilities after two months of applying the program. The importance of studying: 1- The importance of the theory of multiple intelligences, which would develop the strengths of students with attention deficits to help them overcome their weaknesses. This type of program also allows taking into account individual differences among students with learning disabilities. 2- The lack of research and studies within the limits of the researcher's knowledge, which focused on preparing programs for educational games based on the theory of multiple intelligences in reducing attention problems among students with learning disabilities in mathematics, especially in the Arab environment, despite its importance for students with learning disabilities. 3- Providing teachers with some new methods and strategies that help reduce attention disorder among students with disabilities in learning mathematics. Terminology of study: Math learning disabilities: Magdy Ibrahim (2008, 141) defined it as everything that hinders the student to reach the correct solution in one of the steps of the solution. Difficulty is also the inability to acquire mathematical concepts, skills and procedures. Learning Styles are individual personal expressions related to education, and assume an assessment of individual differences; Because it expresses the individual personality of the student (Joce & Weil, 2011, 499). Attention problems It arises from behaviors such as an individual's inability to pay attention to detail when performing life activities such as schoolwork, difficulty retaining attention and listening, failure to complete tasks, inability to organize skills, missing and forgetting tools, avoidance of tasks that require maintenance of effort, and frequent forgetfulness (DSM-IV, 2000). Multiple Intelligences Theory It is a theory that proposes a definition of intelligence as the ability to solve problems, or create valuable outputs within the scope of at least one culture (Jaber Abdel Hamid, 2003, 12). Educational Games It is a logical, structured activity in which players make great efforts and interact together; To achieve clear specific goals in light of certain pre-established laws and rules (Muhammad Al-Haila, 2007, 41). Study limitations: 1- Time limits: the training program was applied to the students of the experimental group during the academic year 2022/2023. 2- Spatial determinants: The program was applied to a group of students with difficulties in learning mathematics at Al-Hinnawi Elementary School in Sharkia Governorate. Methodological limitations: A- Study Methodology: The current study relied on the experimental approach with two experimental and control groups to verify the effectiveness of the training program. The study variables are determined as follows: 1- The independent variable: the training program for educational games based on the theory of multiple intelligences. 2- The dependent variable: reducing attention problems. B- The study sample: The study sample consisted of (20) students with mathematics learning difficulties who suffer from attention problems, and their ages ranged between (10-12) years. The sample was divided into two experimental and control groups, each of which consisted of (10) students. C- Study tools: 1. Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, Fifth Image (Regulation: Safwat Farag, 2011). 2. The rapid neurological survey scale to identify learning disabilities (prepared by / Abdel-Wahhab Kamel, 2000). 3. The Diagnostic Assessment Scale for Learning disabilities (Mathematics) (prepared by Fathi Al-Zayyat, 1999). 4. Attention problems scale (prepared by the researcher). 5. Educational games program based on the theory of multiple intelligences (prepared by the researcher). Statistical methods: Several statistical methods were used to verify the stability and validity of the study tools, and to verify the validity of the study hypotheses. These methods are: • Mann-Whitney test to calculate the significance of differences between ranks. • Wilcoxon test to calculate the significance of differences between ranks. • Z value. Results: 1. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-measurement on the scale of attention problems among fifth grade pupils with learning disabilities in mathematics, in favor of the experimental group. 2. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post measurements on the scale of attention problems among fifth grade students with mathematics learning disabilities, in favor of the post measurement. 3. There are no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental study group in the post and follow-up measurements (two weeks after the end of the program) on the scale of attention problems among fifth grade pupils with mathematics learning disabilities.
