Abstract Background: class IV workers also known as hospital housekeepers are responsible for diverse working activities ranging from cleaning, disinfecting, maintaining fixed surfaces and permanent equipment, collecting and transporting medical waste from hospital units to outside storage. Those workers to develop their activities are exposed to workplace hazards which in turn make them at risk of the occurrence of occupational health hazards. Hence, the current study aimed to: evaluate the effect of health education intervention on controlling occupational health hazards among housekeeping workers at Zagazig university hospitals. Methodology: A quasi-experimental design was used to conduct the current study at Zagazig University Hospitals, where 68 housekeeping workers (34 cases & 34 control) were enrolled in the study. Three tools were used in the present study. The first was a self-administered questionnaire sheet used to collect data about demographic characteristics, work characteristics, workplace hazards, occupational health hazards and occupational health and safety measures. The second was Body Mechanics Skills Checklist. The third was Hand Washing Checklist. Results: housekeeping workers (control & study groups) exposed to many occupational hazards such ergonomic (7.53±1.44 & 7.65±0.92 respectively) and physical hazards (4.53±2.95 & 5.03±3.10 respectively) plus many psychological, mental (4.15±1.52 & 4.15±1.39 respectively) and physical (2.18±1.98 & 2.71±2.36 respectively) health problems due to their unsatisfactory knowledge about personal protective equipment, universal precautions and inadequate performance of hand washing and body mechanics technique. Conclusion: post health education intervention marked improvement occurred in housekeeping workers’ knowledge and practice also, the health education intervention had an effect on controlling the occupational health hazards among housekeeping workers.
