Abstract:
The current study aimed to reduce word-finding difficulties (WFDs) for children with specific language disorder (SLI) through a therapeutic program based on information processing theory. The study sample consisted of (20) boys and girls with SLI, provided that they had difficulties finding words, whose ages ranged between (6: 7) years with a mean of (6.52) and a standard deviation of (0.46), and they were divided into two groups, one of them The experimental and the control group each consisted of (10) children. The researcher used a scale to test the A-TWF Test "the Arabic version" (prepared by / Aya Adel Khader, 2009), and the Scale for Diagnosing Specific Language Disorder: (prepared by / Abdel Aziz Al-Shasr, Mohammad Abdo Hosseini, Zainab Reda Kamal, 2018), and Illinois Test of Psych-Linguistic Abilities: (from Prepared by / Azza Abdel Aziz Azzam,1996), the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale “The Fifth Picture”: (Prepared by Gal. H. Royd, Arabization and Codification / Safwat Faraj, 2010), and the Receptive and Expressive Skills Assessment Scale for the Arabic Language “REAL Scale”: (Prepared by: / Dalia Mustafa Ahmed,2014), a scale of the social and economic level of the family: (prepared by / Abdel Aziz Al-Shaq,2013), and a remedial training program based on the theory of information processing. The results of analyzing the effectiveness of the program used in reducing WFDs showed an improvement in the word-finding skills of the experimental group in terms of speed and accuracy, as well as the continuity of the program after follow-up. The study concluded with the importance of improving word-finding skills and the effect of training them on improving many aspects of weakness in SLI children. Keywords: information processing theory- word finding- word retrieval- specific language disorder.
