"Use of mobile phones worldwide has grown at an unprecedented rate for over a decade, especially in developing countries where traditional land-line networks have been slow to expand. This study attempts to investigate the impact of mobile telecommunications in Egypt by using annual time series data from 1998 to 2015. For this purpose, a structural econometric model with in a production function framework will be used. The model consists of four equations: the first equation is the output equation or economy-wide production function; the second equation determines the demand for telecoms; a third equation determines the investment in telecoms infrastructure and a final equation relates investment to increased rollout. This study depends on three-stage least squares in estimating this simultaneous model using the program (Gretl 2016). The results indicate that mobile telecommunications has a positive and significant impact on economic growth in Egypt."
