Abstract:
Background: Non-pharmacological interventions hold promise in reducing labor pain, with minimal or no harm to the mother, fetus and the progress of labor and have the potential to reduce analgesic consumption, fear, stress and anxiety that the woman may experience during her labor journey. Aim of the study: was to evaluate the effect of an educational program on pregnant women knowledge and attitude regarding non pharmacological techniques of relieving labor pain. Study design: Quazi experimental design. Setting: The study was conducted at the outpatient antenatal clinic at Zagazig university hospitals. Study subjects: A convenient sample of 100 pregnant women, which was the total number of women attending the study setting within a period of six months. Tools of data collection: An interview questionnaire which entailed three parts: socio demographic profile, pregnant women knowledge and attitude regarding non pharmacological techniques of relieving labor pain: Results: revealed that more than two fifth of studied women had adequate total level of knowledge regarding non pharmacological techniques of relieving labor pain pre educational program implementation which was increased to the majority of them post program implementation. Moreover, almost one third of the studied women had positive attitude pre educational program implementation which was improved to the majority of them post program implementation. Conclusion: the present study findings achieved the research hypothesis and the educational program significantly increased pregnant women knowledge and improved attitude regarding non pharmacological techniques of relieving labor pain. Recommendations: Maternity nurses and health care providers should make non pharmacological techniques of relieving labor pain one of the main topics that should be discussed with women during antenatal visits. Mass media and social media should pay great attention to these non pharmacological techniques and should be introduced by specialists to change the incorrect information being passed by friends or family members. Keywords: educational program, pregnant women, knowledge, attitude, non pharmacological techniques, labor pain.
