Effect of Educational Program on Nursing Students’ Knowledge, Beliefs and Barriers Regarding Ova Cryopreservation

Abstract:
ABSERACT Background: Ova cryopreservation has increased in recent years and it is a vital method for preserving fertility, which gives women more choices about their reproductive future and being used for both medical and non-medical indications. Aim of the study: Evaluate effect of educational program on nursing students’ knowledge, beliefs and barriers regarding ova cryopreservation. Research design: Quazi experimental design was adopted to carry out this study. Setting: The study was conducted at faculty of nursing ,in Zagazig University . Subjects: Multistage cluster random sample of 200 nursing students. Tools of data collection: Three tools were used for data collection. Tool I: A Structured interviewing questionnaire, Tool II : Beliefs assessment tool and Tool III: Barriers assessment tool . Results: There was a highly statistically significant difference related to all items of students' knowledge, all items of students' beliefs and all items of students' barriers regarding ova cryopreservation after implementing educational program (P= ≤ 0.001). Also; there was high significant statistical positive correlation between students’ knowledge, beliefs and barriers regarding ova cryopreservation at pre and post implementation of educational program at (p< 0.001). Conclusion: It was concluded that , there was highly statistical significant improvement regarding total students’ knowledge , total nursing students’ beliefs and barriers regarding ova cryopreservation after implementation of educational program. Recommendations: Develop educational program , a simplified and comprehensive booklet about ova cryopreservation for all students ( medical and nonmedical faculties ) and there is a need for more effort and economic support for fertility preservation. Further researches are required to performed training program for nurses about ova cryopreservation. Key words: Barriers, Beliefs, Knowledge , Ova Cryopreservation.
