Background: Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix and it is the third most frequent cancer among women worldwide. Aim of the study: was to assess awareness of women regarding preventive measures of cervical cancer at Zagazig university hospital. Subjects and Methods: Research design: Descriptive design was adopted to carry out this study. Setting: The study was conducted at gynecology unit in outpatient clinic, at Zagazig university hospital. Subjects: Purposive sample of 263 women. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used for data collection. Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire, Tool II: African Women's awareness assessment tool about cervical cancer. Results: This study found poor score of women’s knowledge regarding preventive measures of cervical cancer. Additionally, it reflected a positive a highly significant relation (p<0.001) between level of education, occupation, age of marriage, residence and awareness of risk factors. Also, a significant relation (p<0.05) between age, marital status and awareness of risk factors. Conclusion: It was concluded that, there was poor level of women awareness regarding preventive measures of cervical cancer in this study. Recommendations: Health-education programs that incorporate the media through diverse channels should be implemented to increase women’s knowledge regarding cervical cancer. Also, In the future health organization may make HPV test more available to help early detection of HPV. Keywords: Awareness – preventive measures– cervical cancer
