Background: Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix and it is the third most frequent cancer among women worldwide. Aim of the study: was to assess awareness of women towards risk factors and symptoms of cervical cancer. study design: Descriptive design was used. Setting: The study was conducted at gynecology outpatient clinic, at Zagazig university hospital. Study Subjects: Purposive sample included 263 women. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used for data collection. Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire, Tool II: African Women's awareness assessment tool about cervical cancer, Results: Regarding risk factors of cervical cancer the present study revealed that; the majority of participant women were not aware of many risk factors of cervical cancer. Concerning the symptoms of cervical cancer almost one half of studied women had poor knowledge about cervical cancer. Conclusion: It was concluded that recognition of risk factors and symptoms of cervical cancer was low among study participants. Recommendations: Health-education programs that incorporate the media through diverse channels should be implemented to increase women’s knowledge regarding cervical cancer.
