Abstract:
Abstract The objective of the current study was to determine the causal relationship model between linguistic functioning, verbal working memory, and auditory and visual perception in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A descriptive analytical approach was employed. Several assessment tools were used including the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (fifth edition), the Gilliam scale for diagnosing autism disorder severity symptoms (developed by Adel Abdullah and Abeer Abu Al-Majd, 2020), the verbal working memory scale (developed by Amal Amour and Salah El-Din Taglit, 2019), the auditory perception skills measure (prepared by Iman Shahat, 2022), the visual perception measure (developed by Al-Sayed Al-Samadouni, 2005), and the language functioning measure for children with autism disorder (developed by Adel Abdullah and Amany Fawzy, 2023). The study results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in mean scores between male and female children with autism on the language functioning scale, as well as on the visual and auditory perception scale. Furthermore, no statistically significant difference was found in the mean ranks of scores between male and female children with autism on the verbal working memory scale. Additionally, there were positive and statistically significant correlations between the scores of children with autism on the language functional performance scale and their scores on the visual and auditory perception scale.
