Abstract:
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia that accounts for 50%–70% of all dementia cases. Clinically, AD is manifested by progressive memory loss and a gradual decline in cognitive function, eventually leading to premature death 3–9 years after diagnosis. With no definite cure for AD, management strategies of AD are directed toward altering the course of the disease, retarding disease progression, and improving the quality of life for people with dementia. Green coffee beans are used nowadays to improve health in patients with different diseases including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and neurodegenerative disorders possibly by attenuating oxidative stress and inflammation-induced damage in the brain, as well as improving brain insulin sensitivity. Additionally, combining natural products to currently approved drugs may provide an additional benefit in treating AD. In this chapter, we are focusing on green coffee beans and their benefits in AD and other related disorders.
