Abstract:
This study was carried out on private dairy farms at El-Sharkeya province: a) Ramses project at El salehia Elgedida. b) Sami Asaad dairy farm at Abu-Hammad city This work included five experiments: I- First experiment: Studying the behaviour of dairy cows under two housing systems. The obtained results in this experiment indicated the following: 1- The loose housed dairy cows spent more time (min.) and frequency in eating, drinking and rumination than the tied dairy cows (p≤ 0.05). 2- The loose housed dairy cows spent more time (min.) in urination and defecation than tied dairy cows (p≤ 0.05). 3- There was a significant difference (p≤ 0.05) in standing, lying time, frequency between loose housed dairy cows and the tethered one. As the loose dairy cows spent less time in these activities. 4- There was a significant difference (p≤ 0.05) in time, frequencies of grooming and aggression between loose housed dairy cows and tied dairy cows, as the loose housed dairy cows had more time and frequencies in grooming behaviour and less time and frequency in aggressive behaviour than tied one. 5- Mean milk yield (kg), milking time (min.) and milk rate (kg/min.) were greater in the loose housed dairy cows compared with the tied one (p≤ 0.05). Π- Second experiment: Recording the behaviour of dairy cows before and after milking in the yard. The obtained results in this experiment indicated the following: 1- There was a significant difference (p≤ 0.05) in eating, drinking and rumination before milking and after milking. As after milking dairy cows eating, drinking and rumination more than before milking. 2- Before milking dairy cows had more time and frequencies in urination and defecation than after milking (p≤ 0.05). 3- There was a significant difference (p≤ 0.05) in standing, walking time and frequency before and after milking. As before milking dairy cows spent more time, frequency in these activities while spent lower time and frequency in lying than after milking. 4- Before milking dairy cows spent less time and frequency in grooming while spent higher time and frequency in aggression than after milking. 5- The cortisol level before milking higher than after milking in dairy cows. ΠI- Third experiment: Assessment of dairy cows temperament during milking in relation to milk production. The docile dairy cows produce more milk, more milk flow (kg/ min.) than slightly restless, restless and nervous cows. While less milking time (min.) than slightly restless, restless and nervous cows. IV- Fourth Experiment: Effect of management practices (teat dipping) after milking on milk production and incidence of mastitis. It is advisable to make teat dipping after milking to increase milk yield and prevent incidence of mastitis. V- Fifth Experiment: Effect of drying off period and age of cow on milk production. 1- Cows with a dry period of (41-59 days) had the highest milk yield at 305-day (kg). 2-Total milk yield in relation to age of cows noticed that maximum milk production at 7 year old age.
