Abstract:
Blended cement is used in the field of building and construction to produce high-strength and high-performance concretes. These blended cements improve the fresh and hardened properties of concrete mixes, such as decreasing permeability, enhancing compressive strength significantly especially with the aid of high range water reducers and appropriate plasticizers. This research deals with measuring experimentally the standard content of blended cement paste, where variables considered are blend ratios (where part of the cement was replaced by silica fume), water contents, and superplasticizer dose which is a high range water reducer. The standard consistency results of blended pastes were compared to those of ordinary Portland cement pastes. The results showed that the standard consistency of the cement paste for blended cements decreases with an increase in the plasticizers used, which gives an apparent fluidity to the paste and reduces its water content. Accordingly, it has a positive effect in maintaining a high grade of the blended pastes, which is suitable for high-strength and high-performance concretes.
