Abstract:
Reinforced concrete constructions have expanded to reach sever coastal and arid environments, together with the global climate changes caused by global warming, has led researchers to study and understand the effect of such hostile environments on the performance of reinforced concrete structures. This research aims to study the effect of hot-dry climates on the structural performance reinforced concrete beams. Several beams were considered each subjected to different degrees of temperatures, after which their structural performance was assessed and compared hence understanding the effect of dry-hot temperatures. Results reveal that dry hot weather leads to higher drying shrinkage hence loss of ductility which may initiate cracks and affect the creep and long-term structural behavior of the beams. Accordingly, concretes in sever dry hot environments should follow harsher specification of quality in order to withstand the negative effect that the sever environment imposes.
