Abstract:
Recently, the field of maintenance and repair of reinforced concrete structures has flourished due to numerous cases of deterioration, all of which were due to corrosion of the reinforcement steel. This research deals with evaluating the effect of corrosion due to chlorides on reinforced concrete beams. As well as evaluating the use of different techniques to prevent corrosion and rust due to chlorides, which include coating the reinforcement externally with epoxy resin or containing the reinforcement in concrete with distinctive properties. The results showed that corrosion caused by chloride leads to a rapid decrease in the bearing capacity of reinforced beams. The use of external coatings with epoxy resin and containing the reinforcement in concrete with distinctive properties helps prevent rust and corrosion of the reinforcing steel, which leads to prolonging the service life of the structural elements.
