Abstract:
The current study aimed at identifying the relationship of family stress with both of psychological resilience and future orientation among secondary school students. It also aimed at knowing the differences between genders (males - females) as well as disciplines (scientific - literary) on family stress, psychological resilience and future orientation. Moreover, it aimed at revealing the dimensions of family stress predicting psychological resilience and future orientation among secondary school students. The sample consisted of (407) students of the third year of secondary school students in Zagazig (220 females - 187 males) aged between (17 -18) years old. The family stress scale (prepared by: the researcher 2022), the psychological resilience scale (prepared by: Hisham Abdullah 2022) and the future orientation scale (prepared by: Hisham Abdullah and Nafeh El-Harby 2022) were applied on the sample. The results concluded that: there is a statistically significant negative correlation between family stress scores and psychological resilience scores of the secondary school students. there is a statistically significant negative correlation between the total score of the family stress scale and the scores of future orientation scale of the secondary school students except the second dimension (motivation). There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the males and the females on the family stress scale in favor of the males.There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the males and the females on the psychological resilience scale in favor of the females.There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the males and the females on each of the first, second and third dimensions of the future orientation scale (breadth, motivation and planning) in favor of the females.There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the scientific and literary disciplines on the personal stress in favor of the scientific discipline. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the scientific and literary disciplines on the third dimension of the future orientation scale (planning) in favor of the scientific discipline. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the scientific and literary disciplines on the fourth dimension of the future orientation scale (evaluation) in favor of the literary discipline. The results also indicated that we can predict the total score of psychological resilience through the scores of the dimensions of both personal stress and economic stress for secondary school students. In addition, we can predict the total score of future orientation through the scores of the dimensions of both stress with siblings and economic stress for secondary school students. The study recommends the necessity of providing counseling services for secondary school students to help them face family stress and deal with it positively. Meanwhile, it recommends providing parents with counseling programs to raise awareness of the risks and negative effect of family stress on students' future, developing students' psychological resilience through family and school support and developing a positive attitude towards future by assuring the importance of their future, making future plans and programs and implementing them.
