Knowledge and Attitudes toward Energy Drinks and Its Health Problems among Saudi Female Adolescents

Abstract:
Consumption of energy drinks (ED) was observed highly prevalent among students in King Saudi Arabia for verity reasons; it contains as much caffeine as a cup of coffee that leads to serious side effects, young age and students is unaware of these associated health problems. Aim of the study was to assess the Knowledge and attitudes toward Energy Drinks and its health problems among Saudi Female adolescents Design: A descriptive design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: the research was conducted at Turkesh secondary school of girls at Turkesh city, south of King Saudi Arabia. Subjects: 100 females' students were selected after multi-stage's random sampling techniques. Data Collection Tools: Data were collected by using a self-administered questionnaire guide, included 4 sections and conducted by researchers. Results: Eighty - five percent of the ' students had unsatisfactory knowledge in ED. Also, 70.0%, & 62.0% of them mentioned that the ED was harmful substances but it was available at public markets. Seventy- eight percent of the students were consuming ED, and 32.1%, & 34.6% respectively were consuming ED once or twice per week while 23.1% of them were consuming it more than 3 times per week. Conclusions: Consumption of ED was common among students who participated in this study; knowledge regarding ED & its health associated problems was unsatisfactory. Recommendations: Health care provider should be sharing in educating community either national or international about the risks of drinking ED using multi suitable media. Warning signs on the ED containers must be clear and visible to read in a proper consumed language.
