Nurses and Patients Awareness to Cancer at King Saudi Arabia

Abstract:
Cancer is a multifaceted diseases with many possible causes, all have own set of risk factors, that largely related to lifestyle choices. Most persons don't understand that risk factors can be avoided. Cancer risk avoiding policies can greatly lower the physical, emotional, and economic load and improve the overall health. Personnel awareness to potential cancer risk factors, warning signs, as well as when and how to seek help will play a vital role in confirming that cancer is managed at an early stage. Aim of the study: of the study were to: assess nurses' and patients awareness to cancer risk factors, cancer warning signs and when seeking assistance. Subjects and Methods: Study was carried out at Mohail Asser Hospital. 100 nurses and 100 patients were the subjects. Design: A descriptive exploratory design was used. Tool of data collection: a Questionnaire was used to collect the relevant data, from both nurse and patients (Health’s cancer awareness measurement tool). Results and conclusion revealed that Patients awareness to cancer early signs and risk factors were unsatisfied, while, satisfied for nurses subjects, More than half of patient had barrier to seek medical assistance, and there were a significant relationship between nurses and patients knowledge regarding when must be went to seek assistance and total satisfactory knowledge regarding cancer risk factors & warning signs (P<0.05). Recommendation: Improving community awareness of cancer, focusing on the association between specific lifestyle risk factors and cancer must be conducting continuously to improve and refresh their knowledge's
