Structural Characterization and Antimicrobial Studies of Some New Mixed Ligand Complexes of Lomefloxacin and 3-(Bromoacetyl)coumarin with Some Metals

Abstract:
New mixed ligand complexes have been developed and tested. The chelation of BAC and LFX resulted in mononuclear complexes with Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II). The metal complexes were characterized and structurally clarified using a variety of analytical and spectroscopic tools. According to the findings, LFX and BAC serve as bi-dentate ligands via pyridone oxygen and carboxylate oxygen and oxygen of, α, β-unsaturated ketone and oxygen of lactone carbonyl of coumarin, respectively. All complexes have a coordination number of six. The findings of this study confirm the postulated octahedral shape of metal complexes and constitute a beneficial molecular arrangement. The kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition phases were determined using the Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzeger equations. The produced complex‘s suggested structure was geometrically optimized, and the molecular parameters of BAC, LFX, and their metal complexes were computed. The antimicrobial activity of BAC, LFX, and their metal complexes was investigated, and the results revealed that the metal complexes had much better antibacterial impact than the ligands, but no antifungal action.
