Abstract:
This study sheds light on the miniatures on the ring of Prophet Suleiman, which was drawn on various Ottoman monuments and arts. The ring has always been symbolized for by drawing either a hexagonal or a pentagonal star. It is declared, through conducting this research, that the drawing of this ring was famously involved in an illustrated religious manuscript known as "An'am Sharif"; also known as "Book of prayers, supplications, adhkars, praises, and urads". The importance of this study lies in its first publication of eight Ottoman versions of this manuscript, each depicting the ring of Prophet Suleiman, which had not been published before. The aim of depicting this ring was to use it as a mascot, amulets, or harzes. The study describes the different designs and forms of the ring’s depictings. Also, it reads its carved written-inscriptions, addresses their various contents with their calligraphic types, and determines the language of writing and decorations, to find out how these miniatures and inscriptions are related to the culture and beliefs of the Ottomans.
