Abstract : This study sheds light on an Ottoman copy of the Sulwān al-Muṭā fī Udwān al-Atbā manuscript by Ibn Zafar Al-Siqilli (died in 565 AH, 1170 AD). The underlying copy is published and studied for the first time in the current study. It is kept in the Royal French Library (under Suppl. ar. no. 539). Its importance lies in being illuminated with colorful miniatures explaining the caliphs' historical stories and events mentioned in the original version. These miniatures contribute to date the manuscript within its period of publication. The manuscript is in one volume, consisting of seventy-two pages, with fifty-eight paintings. The study aims at identifying the manuscript and its author; addressing its subjects; dating its publication according to its miniatures; studying the traits and artistic merits of these miniatures with their executing method, in compare with other examples already dated, as a way of manifesting the dating; finding out points of similarities and differences among Ottoman artists' miniatures; and considering whether these miniatures conform to reality or not.
