Abstract:
Abstract : The research addresses six ancient tombstones published and examined for the first time. Their historical and archaeological significance is due to their being of the same family; i.e., the departed Tahir Pasha, Egypt’s governor in (1803A.D./1218A.H.) It is the first time to shed light on this governor and his biography in this research, In addition to their significance historically and archaeologically, these tombstones strongly enrich social systems and family ties; that is, in terms of identifying the genealogical chain, names, titles, and death dates of the very family members.Historically, the most ancient of these tombstones is Tahir pasha’s himself, in addition to that of one of his daughters. Other tombstones belong to four out of his grandchildren, specifically of his departed son Ahmad Pasha Tahir. The research is to examine these tombstones artistically and archaeologically to describe them precisely, and to analyze their Calligraphic writings in terms of form and content. It also recommends the necessity of registering these tombstones under the Islamic monuments, in order for preserving them against mess, and relying upon this research for their documentation on the scientific and archaeological side. Keywords : Tombstones, Tahir Pasha, Egypt, Ottoman, Calligraphic.
