The study aimed to analyze domestic production and national consumption and food gap and the rate of self-sufficiency and the average per capita of red meat in Egypt.And to study the contribution patterns of red meat (buffalo, cow, sheep, goat, camel) in the total production of red meat in Egypt .And to analyze the activity of retail trade (butchers) of red meat using economic and marketing indicators for retail trade of red meat. And identify the problems and the Proposals for the improvement of this trade. The study depend on two main sources of data: Secondary data from the Ministry of Agriculture and land reclamation.And primary data (questionnaire) from butchers in 2014.The study depend on descriptive and quantitative methods to analyze data. Results of the study: 1- The value of animal production represents about 35.13% of the value of agricultural production during the period (1998-2012). And the value of red meat represents about 39.84% of the value of animal production during the same period. 2- There is a statistically significant annual increase in the number of heads in cow, sheep, goat and buffalo. And there is a statistically in- significant annual decrease in the number of head in camel. 3- The relative importance of cow red meat represents about 42.37%, buffalo about 40.99%, sheep about 9.22%, Goat about 6.48%, camel about 0.94% of the average annual production of red meat (about 832.92 thousand ton) in Egypt (1998-2012). There is a statistically significant annual increase of cow and buffalo red meat. And there is a statistically in-significant annual increase in sheep and camel red meat. but there is a statistically in-significant annual decrease in goat red meat. 4- The average consumption of red meat is higher than The average production of red meat; this led to food gap in red meat in Egypt (1998-2012). Recommendation: 1- Provide concentrate and non-traditional feed, to increase supply of live animals, and decrease their prices.
