Abstract:
The current research aimed to study the relationship between self-disclosure cross social networking sites and both social support and social anxiety for university students, as well as revealing the level of both self-disclosure through social networking sites, social support and social anxiety for university students, in addition to identifying the impact of gender (male / Females) as one of the demographic variables for both self-disclosure through social media sites, social support and social anxiety for university students. The sample consisted of (1443) male and female students in the Faculty of Education at Zagazig University. Using the arithmetic means and standard deviations to calculate the weighted average of the research variables, the (T) test for the two independent samples, and the Pearson correlation coefficient, the results were as follows: the level of the total score for self-disclosure through social networking sites and its various dimensions, social support and its different dimensions, as well as social anxiety for university students Zagazig was of the highest standard. The results of the research also found that there is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of males and females in (disclosure of personal information, disclosure of family relations, disclosure of activities and aspirations) and in the total degree of self-disclosure through social media, while there are statistically significant differences between the average Male and female scores in the dimension (disclosure of emotional and mood states) in favor of the mean scores of females, and there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of males and females in the dimension (disclosure of opinions and trends) in favor of the average scores of males. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of males and females in (support by the family, support by teachers) and in the total score of social support. While there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of males and females in the dimension (support by friends) in favor of the average scores of females, in addition to the presence of statistically significant differences between the mean scores of males and females in the total score of social anxiety in favor of the average scores of females. The results also indicated the existence of a positive statistically significant correlational relationship between the total degree of self-disclosure through social networking sites and its various dimensions and the total degree of social support and its various dimensions among students of Zagazig University. While there is a statistically significant negative correlational relationship between the total degree of self-disclosure through social networking sites and its various dimensions and the total degree of social anxiety.
