Abstract:
Background: rupture patellar tendon (RPT) is a rare condition. delayed management of ruptured patellar tendon has the problems of adhesions and retraction of the patella proximally. Subacute repair is defined as a repair done between 3 weeks and 6 weeks, earlier than 3weeks it is acute repair, while older than 6 weeks it is a chronic one. Most studies about that subject had only been carried out in a small number of cases, there are no clear guidelines among surgeons in managing such problems. Patients and Methods: This study was conducted prospectively from March 2016 to February 2018 treating 12 patients who had (RPT) with delayed presentations between 3 weeks and 6 weeks postinjury, the site of rupture was proximal at the distal pole of the patella, there were no distal or midsubstance rupture cases in this study. All cases received primary repair using a locking Krackow fashion suture passing through 3 transosseous tunnels in the patella and the autogenous semitendinosus tendon from the ipsilateral side was harvested and rerouted through a tunnel in the quadriceps tendon to be sutured upon itself as augmentation, in addition to closed-loop stainless steel cerclage wire.
