The Effectiveness of a Suggested Program Based on Brain-Based Learning in Developing Elementary School Students’ Writing Spelling Skills and Habits of Mind Dr. Salwa Hassan Mohamed Basal The aim of the present research was to develop elementary school students' writing spelling skills and their habits of mind through a suggested program based on brain-based learning, and to measure the effectiveness of the program in developing their writing spelling skills and their habits of mind. In order to achieve the purpose of the research, the researcher conducted the following procedures: determining the writing spelling skills required for the sixth grade pupils, preparing a test to measure these skills among the pupils, determining habits of mind skills appropriate for the sixth grade pupils, preparing a scale to measure these skills among the pupils, and preparing the suggested program based on brain-based learning.In addition, the researcher prepared a teacher guide for its implementation and a student’s book. Moreover, a group of (35) sixth-grade pupils from Al-Nasiriyah Primary School in Zagazig was chosen to form a treatment group, then the researcher conducted the experiment. Finally, results were treated statistically to verify the validity of the hypotheses. Research Results: 1. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre-and post-administration of the writing spelling skills test as a whole and in each of its sub-skills favoring the post-administration. 2. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre- and post-administration of the habits of mind scale as a whole and in each of its sub-dimensions favoring the post-administration. 3.The suggested program based on brain-based learning was effective in developing both writing spelling skills and habits of mind of the experimental group students. 4.There was a positive correlation between writing spelling skills and habits of mind of the sixth-grade pupils. Research Recommendations: 1. Activating the use of brain-based learning in developing the Arabic language skills of learners at all educational levels, especially the primary stage. 2.Training students greatly on developing their writing spelling skills regularly and continuously. 3.Indulging habits of mind skills in the Arabic language curriculum and working on developing them among students. 4.Focusing on the functional aspect of the topics and words that students are studying when developing their writing spelling skills and employing those skills in their speaking and writing.
