Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide and the most frequent type of primary liver cancer. HCC is diagnosed in the laboratory using either fine-needle cytology, which is invasive and has intra- or inter-observer variability or measuring circulating biomarkers. In combination with ultrasonography and computed tomography, several prognostic and diagnostic indicators are helpful in the clinical practice of screening and diagnosing HCC. Aim of work: To give an overview of serum biomarkers of HCC.
