Recently, electronic surveillance- as a mean that enables the execution of criminal penalty out of penal institutions- has been adopted by several legislations as an alternative for short custodial penalties or as a method to minimize disadvantages of long custodial penalties. Evidently , electronic surveillance stands as one of the outcomes of employing modern technology in the field of criminal justice which served as a mean to ensure the reintegration of sentenced criminals into society. Electronic surveillance generally means allowing a sentenced criminal to exist outside prison ( in his home , work , etc) for a specific time under a surveillance that is carried out using electronic means. This research initially focuses on electronic surveillance in the French law through discussing the conditions necessary for its application and the merits that can result from its adoption in the Egyptian law .
