The way a person processes the scientific material and how it is received, prepared and stored is of great importance in determining the rate of remembering or subsequent retrieval of information. The information processing model confirms that processing and deeper processing of the learned material means employing more energy than mental effort in making a larger network of interconnections between the parts of the learned material and each other on the one hand and between it and similar knowledge in memory on the other hand, which facilitates the retrieval of previous information. Also, processing at the deeper level of information leads to a richer learning, mastery of coding and finding relationships between the learned material and knowledge or similar experiences in the cognitive structure of the individual, and the use of the person's frame of reference.
