The study aimed to identify the nature of the relationship between metacognition skills and the ability to solve problems among third year secondary school students. The study sample consisted of (150) male and female students, and two scientific tools were used: the Metacognitive Skills Scale designed by the researchers, and the Problem Solving Ability Scale. The results showed a direct correlation between metacognition skills in general and in its three dimensions (planning, monitoring, and evaluation) and problem solving, while there were no statistically significant differences between the sexes in metacognitive skills in general and in the three dimensions referred to. However, there are differences between the ordinary and the mentally superior in metacognition skills in general and in its three dimensions (planning, monitoring, and evaluation) and problem solving in favor of the mentally superior.
