Abstract:
The current research aims to study the relationship of cognitive distortions to the trend towards intolerance and violence among university students, and the differences between boys and girls, and between scientific and literary students in both cognitive distortions and the trend towards intolerance and violence, and to achieve these goals the researcher built two scales, one to measure cognitive distortions and the other to measure the trend Towards intolerance and violence, and on a sample of 560 male and female students at the Faculty of Education in Zagazig, using correlation coefficients, t-test and regression analysis, the following results were reached: 1- There is a statistically significant correlation between the dimensions of the cognitive distortions scale and the total score on the one hand, and the dimensions of the scale of attitude towards intolerance and violence and the total score on the other hand among university students. 2 University students’ degrees of intolerance and violence can be predicted through their scores on cognitive distortions. 3- There are no statistically significant differences between male and female university students, and between those with scientific majors and those with literary majors in both cognitive distortions and the tendency towards intolerance and violence. The results were discussed in the light of the theoretical framework, previous studies and research, and recommendations and suggestions were presented.
