Developing a Pedagogy for Teaching Innovation and co-creation in faculty of Education Based on Design Thinking and Digital Transformation

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to introduce and pilot pedagogy for teaching innovation and co-creation in faculty of education. The proposed pedagogy is based on a designedly way of thinking and digital competences, with an experimental culture of innovation in order to improve students’ innovative and way of thinking making. Sample, 53 students in the Department of Art Education at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University and using one experimental group with pre – post- test and use of a digital platform in a sculpting course, using an observation card and a Likert scale applied to a questionnaire with twenty questions in order to determine an innovative score for students’ prototype to collect data. The main finding is that the proposed pedagogy enhanced innovative and co-creative student competences. Moreover, digital skills gave the ability to the students to create new valuable products and foster a new type of thinking for youth employment as well as for responsible economic growth and economic well-being. Since the proposed pedagogy is a skills-based approach it aims on creating the 21st century skills that are needed in future jobs.
