There are two types of computer-based tests: the standard computer-based test (CBTs), and the computer-based test adapted to the applicant’s ability to test (CATs). The test has a fixed methodology as is the case in the original hard copies of the test, in other words, all applicants to take this computer-based test answer the questions in the same order in which the questions are presented in the hard copy. In the computer-adapted test for CAT student ability, the test performers answer different sets of questions, which are asked to them based on their levels, as their answer to a question affects the quality of the following questions that the computer chooses for them. A little more than the first, and vice versa, if the answer is wrong, the computer will choose a less difficult question, hence the name "adaptive test".
