Abstract:
The present study aimed to train basic education teachers to develop their competencies according to the 21st century skills. The sample consisted of 36 male and female teachers (19 male and 17 female) who have experience in teaching less than five years in the basic education stage from graduates from the College of Education who study basic subjects. The researcher has prepared a questionnaire for the 21st century skills that consisted of 56 items distributed in five dimensions: general skills and knowledge, learning and innovation skills, communication and cooperation skills, technological skills, and life and career skills, As well as a training program to develop the competencies of basic education teachers according to the skills of the 21st century skills. The quasi--experimental approach was used to design the one group of pre, post and sequence measurements. The results indicated that there are statistically significant differences between the pre and post measurements in acquiring the skills and knowledge of the 21st century in favor of post measurements, whereas, there were no statistically significant differences between the post and sequence measurements. The study recommended that teacher training institutions provide their graduates with skills and knowledge of the 21st century, especially awareness of contemporary world issues, health and environmental culture, citizenship culture and entrepreneurship, learning and innovation skills, as well as integrating and embedding skills and knowledge of the 21st century in their programs.
