Abstract:
During October 1998, tomato plants in Sillenbuch, Stuttgart, Germany exhibited typical symptoms of late blight disease. Infected tomato leaves, stem and fruits were collected to isolate and identify the pathogenic fungus. Isolated fungus was identified as P.infestans Mont. de Bary and its pathoginicity was confirmed on tomato and potato plants. From the same samples P.infestans oospores were observed microscopically. This is the first record of P.infestans oospores on tomato plants in field under natural conditions in Germany or in the other countries (CAB Abst. 1972-2002/2). Oospores previously observed on potato plants under field conditions by Gallegly and Galindo (1958).
