Abstract:
1. The granitoid rocks in Maktali area constitute a two-phase pluton (Maktali leucogranites and Maktali monzogranites), which intrude the country intermediate and acidic metavolcanics with sharp contact. 2. Maktali granitoids are slightly peraluminous and moderately to highly fractionated high-K calc-alkaline granitoids. They have a similar composition of younger granite in Egyptian basements. 3. Leucogranites and monzogranites were emplaced at temperatures 699.8- 828.8 °C and 757.2-909.6 °C and under pressure 1.22–4.8 kbars and 2.36–2.98 kbars respectively. Their depths of emplacement range between 3.28– 12.96 and 6.36–8.5 km and they were crystallized under oxidizing conditions with log (fO2) range from − 13.2 to − 16.1 and from - 11.6 to - 14.7 respectively. Maktali granitoids belong to magnetite series granitoids and their crystallization was controlled by NNO fugacity buffer. 4. Leucogranites and monzogranites have same REEs pattern, so share the same magmatic source. They were emplaced during the late-collisional stage in northern ANS. Leucogranites might be generated by the partial melting of crustal source rocks may occur as a consequence of decompression following delamination of the lithospheric root and slab breakoff with addition of subcontinental lithospheric mantle source. Partial melting is the main process responsible for magmatic evolution of leucogranites, followed by fractional crystallization. 5. Monzogranites represent calc-alkaline peraluminous granitoids and they show distinctive features of rare metal-bearing granites. Both field and textural evidences together with columbite mineral chemistry and trace elements behavior in monzogranites suggest the magmatic model rather than the metasomatic model for the generation of monzogranites and their contents of columbitetantalite minerals. They were generated by both fractional crystallization and the fluid-rock interaction during latestage of granite crystallization.
