This paper is a comparative study of “calambur” or pun in Spanish and oronyms in Arabic. Oronyms is a phonetic phenomenon where combinations of multiple words or phrases, have similar sounds. In “el calambur” two or more words are combined into one new neologism with the same pronunciation but a different meaning of its origins. The study is divided into two parts: a theoretical part chronolgizing for the phenomenon and a practical one analyzing and comparing poetic works in the two languages. The aim of the study is to link pun in Spanish to oronyms in Arabic. Key words: pun, wordplay, homophony, combination, stylistic device
