Abstract: |
Background: Institutions of higher education face a number of serious challenges, particularly
concerning effectiveness, efficiency and quality and many organizations of higher education have found it
difficult to implement total quality management (TQM) successfully. Aim of the study: was to develop
strategies to overcome obstacles to total quality management successful implementation at Faculty of
Nursing, Zagazig University. Subjects & Methods: Research design: descriptive methodological design
was used. Setting: The faculty of nursing Zagazig University. Subjects: Convenience samples of 80
faculty staff members and 30 of Jury committee. Tools of data collection: A self-administered
questionnaire sheets were used for data collection: 1) personal data. 2) The obstacles to (TQM)
implementation questionnaire, which covers five domains namely; aspects of administration, faculty staff
members, scientific research, community service and the organization /faculty. Results: revealed that
the highest percentage of the staff members reported that the scientific research, the organization /
faculty and administration domains were strong obstacles to implement (TQM) successfully (65.0%,
53.8% & 42.5% respectively) and ranking order of obstacles (2.56, 2.47, 2.16, 2.07) scientific research,
the organization/ faculty, community service, administration and faculty staff members respectively.
Conclusion: All obstacles to implement (TQM) successfully considered strong as well as a highly
statistically significant positive correlation was found between most of TQM obstacles at p value (.000)
and based on results and literature the required strategies to overcome obstacles to (TQM) successful
implementation at Faculty of Nursing, Zagazig University were developed and majority of jury group
agree about general, specific objective and strategies to overcome obstacles to (TQM).
Recommendations: The suggested strategies to overcome obstacles to (TQM) should be used at
faculty of nursing, Zagazig University, disseminated by the faculty administration to all departments,
reviewed, revised and updated periodically as appropriate and as necessary.
