Abstract:
As PDPN expression has been identified on LECs not blood vessel endothelium, it is widely used to highlight lymphatics and lymphangiogenesisbased diseases. In tumors, higher expression of PDPN in lymphatics, tumor cells, and/or stromal cells in the tumor environment is associated with highernodal metastatic risks and poorer prognosis, so PDPN expression could be used as a biomarker for skin cancer prognosis.Besides considering PDPN as a poor prognostic marker in skin cancer, it could be diagnostic in primary skin adnexal carcinomas, fibrous histiocytomas, and some vascular tumors differentiating them from their mimickers.Targeting PDPN can modulate lymphangiogenesis-based diseases, and it may become a key target for future anticancer therapies.
