Abstract:
Aim: To investigate the levels of serum osteopontin in pediatric patients with T1DM and to explore if these levels have a role in the prediction of diabetes complications. Conclusion: T1DM Patients had higher osteopontin levels than controls . -T1DM patients with microalbuminuria had serum osteopontin levels higher than in patients with normal albumin excretion rate and in the control group. -T1DM patients with retinal disease had higher serum osteopontin levels than those without . -Increased osteopontin levels are independently associated with T1DM in pediatric patients and supports the hypothesis that osteopontin may have a role in the prediction of microvascular diabetes complications.
