Abstract:
Infection with Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common bacterial infections worldwide. H. pylori has been linked to many gastrointestinal diseases including duodenal or gastric ulcers, gastric cancer and MALT lymphoma. Treatment of H.pylori infection with traditional triple therapy has been recommended as the first-line treatment in many guidelines. However, higher treatment failure rate for H. pylori infection due to increasing antibiotic resistance become common. On the opposite of clarithromycin or metronidazole which have a high level of H. pylori resistance, H. pylori resistance to amoxicillin has been reported to be very low. Amoxicillin is effective at a high pH level and therefore proton pump inhibitors are given with amoxicilli. So, the aim of the work was to compare the efficacy of high-dose dual therapy with the currently recommended standard triple therapy. It was found that high dose dual therapy is as effective and safe as TT as empiric first-line therapy for H pylori infection.
