Pregabalin (PGA) is an antiepileptic drug (AED) used for neuropathic pain and as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adult patients. The current study was performed to assess the adverse effects of pregabalin (PGA) on reproductive organs, hormonal assay and fertility in male rats. Thirty (30) male albino rats (10-weeks-old) were divided into two groups (15 rats each): Control group was orally received saline once daily and PGA-treated group was orally received 20mg/kg b.wt. once daily. The experimental study was conducted for 65 consecutive days. PGA caused a significant reduction in reproductive organs weights, (testis, seminal vesicles and prostate glands), sperm count, sperm motility percent, alive sperm percent, serum testosterone levels and serum LH levels. PGA treated group also showed a significant increase in sperm abnormalities percent. No significant changes were observed in serum levels of FSH. Results indicate that PGA exerts a significant harmful effects on male reproductive system.
