Abstract:
The dynamic interactions between soil and shear walls play an important role in the seismic response of structures which changes the natural frequencies of the structure so; the effect of soil-structure interaction is very important and must be estimated to prevent straining actions within the structure. During earthquakes, structure and soil are exposed to crack and some extent yielding of structural members leading to necessity the nonlinear structural analysis. In this paper, the developed nonlinear finite element model is used and incorporates such model into a developed computer program to solve soil-structure interaction problem due to different loads. The soil structure interaction problem is solved by introducing a modified model to challenge the problem introduced from tension in soil. The new model based on a combination between Duncan model and Mohr-Coulomb model by using the coupled finite and infinite elements. The computer program has many capabilities to calculate principle stresses, principle strains, deformation, crack angle and draw the crack patterns at any time. The verification of the program is made by comparing the results with the previously experimental problems where good agreement is observed. Several parameters are studied such as the type of soil, the connecting beam depth, the ratio of the edge steel reinforcement, the depth of the foundation and the position of the opening between two wall piers
