Abstract:
A theoretical study of the noise characteristics in surface acoustic wave (SAW) and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) oscillators is presented. Based on tile analysis of crystal oscillator noise, an expression for tile oscillators noise is obtained. With this expression tile BAW and SAW noise are characterized. Comparative study has been carried out, which indicates tile superiority of the SAW oscillators at higher frequencies. Thus SAW devices call eliminate the need for a multiplier (which are necessary with BAW devices) and this generally leads to more compact devices consuming less lower. The computer simulation results are verified by comparison with published experimental results and Good agreement is obtained.
